As summer ends, another cohort of FHU interns traded cubicles for classrooms. Their FHUture is bright. They gained technical, professional, and invaluable soft skills.
The FHU internship program stands apart. Interns are equals with a seat at the table. They are offered hands-on experiences, mentorship, and the opportunity to truly make a difference in the communities we serve. FHU is a place where interns return, continue to work through their school year or join the team as full-time employees. An internship at FHU exceeds expectations with consistent professional growth and new challenges.
Over the summer of 2023, several interns captured their daily experiences and produced “Week in the Life as an Intern” videos for a social media campaign. They shared in-depth project experiences, hands-on field work, the challenge of technical tasks and FHUn with coworkers in and out of the office. The social media campaign was developed by Peyton Saar, an intern in the Marketing and Creative Communications group.
Interns enrich FHU’s culture and play an integral role in delivering transportation excellence across every discipline. Their joy, energy and ideas will be missed as they head back to school. We look forward to sharing our workspaces with those who remain on and with those who will return next summer Most importantly, this is a time of proud reflection upon the opportunity to have fostered the next generation of engineers, scientists, planners, graphic designers, and creative communicators.
View their experiences and learn about their favorite memories and biggest takeaways.
“This internship has given me a glimpse of what transportation engineers and planners do on a daily basis. I gained some practical skills, industry knowledge, and was privileged to build professional connections.”
“I’m most proud of my deluxe excel file that walks through all the steps to determine the prestress losses of prestressed beams. I worked on this for many hours over the summer and will continue to be used throughout my upcoming designs.”
“One of my favorite memories is the Fort Collins open house and getting to meet a lot of people from the Denver office.”
“I’m most proud of the project that I worked on. I was able to start on a project from the very beginning and continue to work on it still to this day. It’s cool to see how a project starts and how it can progress.”
“I am proud that I was able to get the hang of how the Graphics department worked. I had a great time getting to know the team and enjoyed how they joke around with each other.”
