Trinidad Project

FHU Principal Tom Anzia (pictured, second from right) and Project Manager Jeanne Sharps attended the ribbon cutting ceremony on February 4, 2011 to mark the official opening of the improved segment of I-25 through Trinidad. Tom and Jeanne were part of a large assembly who braved chilly temperatures for the celebration, which included CDOT Chief Engineer Pam Hutton and Trinidad Mayor Jenny Garduno. FHU was the lead designer for this complex project, managing a large subconsultant team for nearly ten years. Designed and constructed in three phases, the reconstructed I-25
will improve safety and alleviate traffic congestion for area travelers.

RidgeGate Parkway/Mainstreet Extension Opens

RidgeGate Parkway/Mainstreet Extension

A much-anticipated segment of RidgeGate Parkway, from Peoria Street to Meridian Village Parkway, opened in the City of Lone Tree on December 13th, 2010. FHU completed the design for the arterial within six months. RidgeGate Parkway now provides a second east-west connection between Parker and Lone Tree and will relieve congestion on the busy segment of Lincoln Avenue between I-25 and Parker Road. Traffic modeling completed by FHU projected savings of approximately $2 million per year in reduced public commute time. FHU joined elected officials and area business leaders to celebrate the completion of this important addition to the Douglas County transportation network.

6th Avenue Waste Tire Noise Wall Awarded
2011 Engineering Excellence Award

6th Avenue Waste Tire Noise Wall

The Colorado Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies recognized the 6th Avenue Waste Tire Noise Wall with an Engineering Excellence Award on November 1, 2010. This small project was recognized for big innovation in sustainable transportation design. FHU worked with counterparts at CDOT to develop a wholly new application of a recycled tire product originally intended for railroad use. FHU re-purposed a product called Tire-Tie™ (an environmentally friendly alternative to creosote-soaked wood railroad ties) to create the noise wall. The first of its kind in Colorado, the innovative design stacked the Tire-Ties into vertical supports that formed a wall to provide noise relief to residents living adjacent to a busy segment of 6th Avenue (a six-lane highway) in Lakewood.
