MEET THE MASTERMINDS BEHIND THE FIRM
ROBERT W. FELSBURG, PE (Retired – 2014)
Over the course of an eminent 40-year career, Bob Felsburg was a recognized and respected transportation planner and engineer, managing major multimodal transportation studies, plans, research efforts, and engineering projects throughout the United States, with a focus on the Rocky Mountain region and the Midwest. He helped to guide FHU for nearly 30 years, during which time FHU grew from a single-office, three-person firm to a four-office company with more than 120 transportation professionals. Bob was committed to enhancing the engineering community, serving as President and National Director of the American Council of Engineering Companies-Colorado (ACEC-CO). In 2012, he was the recipient of the Orley O. Philips Award, the highest honor given to an engineer each year by ACEC-CO. He also remained active as an advisor to the College of Engineering at his alma mater, Penn State, and in 2014 was honored as Outstanding Engineering Alumnus by the University.
STEPHEN A. HOLT, PE (Retired – 2009)
Steve Holt had a distinguished career that spanned more than 50 years in the planning, design, and implementation of major transportation systems throughout the United States as well as internationally. Although he spent much of his career in Colorado, Steve also lived and worked in unique places like Alaska and Ecuador. He guided the growth of FHU’s design practice, applying his skills honed by working for federal and state agencies, as well as several international consulting firms. He was a recognized leader among numerous professional associations, including the American Council of Engineering Companies-Colorado (he also received the Orley O. Phillips Award) and the Colorado Contractor’s Association. Steve’s vast knowledge of Colorado’s transportation system led him to be appointed to Blue Ribbon Panels on transportation by three governors, and he was presented the prestigious Roderick L. Downing Award from the Colorado Transportation Conference in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the advancement of the transportation system in the state.
ARNOLD J. ULLEVIG (Retired – 2001)
Arnie Ullevig began his 35-year professional career in his native Minnesota and moved to Colorado in the early 1980s. He joined Bob and Steve in 1985, completing the firm’s original partnership of FELSBURG HOLT & ULLEVIG. Over the course of sixteen years with FHU, Arnie was a driving force in FHU’s development as a leader in transportation planning and large multimodal corridor studies. His communication skills, both verbal and written, made him a particularly effective leader of multidiscipline planning and design teams. This work contributed to the evolution of project programming techniques to meaningfully incorporate the goals of citizen stakeholders and the constraints on local policy makers into technical work programs. Successful projects were completed in metropolitan sub-areas, urban counties, front range municipalities, and resort ski areas. He is now happily retired in Arizona.
